The White Whale paintings dealt with a period of time when my mother was in the hospital and then her eventual passing. The last month in her hospital room with my siblings was both intensely sad and deep as she was in and out of consciousness. The night before she died, I had a dream where my mother became a white whale before finally swimming off into the horizon. This was the impetus for these paintings. Water imagery, organic shapes, colors from the hospital and marks from my childhood drove these paintings and fed my most abstract language to date.
